Focus on the process, not the event.

There is profit in all hard work, but endless talk leads only to poverty – Proverbs 14:23

Everyone wants to be wealthy, fit and happy. It’s good to dream big and wish for the best for yourself. However, most people stay dreaming and few set out to achieve their goals. People are focused on the event instead of the process. Everyone admires how Usain Bolt broke 10 second barrier and set a world record but not many talk about the process of how he got there. A more recent example, everyone was Team Kipchoge and applauded him for setting the marathon world record and achieving 1:59. Many talked about his success, few talked about the process. If you go to YouTube, videos of his process and videos of him actually breaking the record are very different. The latter has way more views than the former. Why? Because people focus on the event instead of the process.

ARE YOU GOING TO ACHIEVE YOUR DREAMS?

The sad truth is that not all of us will achieve our dreams. Not everyone will become rich, not everyone will become fit, not everyone will be better than they are now. This is because most people are not willing to put in the effort to get where they want to be, stay inside their comfort zone and blame the system for why they are not successful. The truth is that to achieve your dreams, you will have to face many obstacles along the way but the obstacle is the way. If you have read the book on the same title, the author, Ryan Holiday, shifts a person’s perspective from seeing an obstacle as a bad thing to viewing it as a great thing. This is because when you take on the obstacle, you will fail, learn from it, fail again and learn again. The cycle repeats over and over again but you get better each time. When you have reached a certain level, you overcome the obstacle where many could not and you achieve your goals. This is because you understood the process, went through it and finally succeeded and hence the event...success!

TRUST THE PROCESS

Every successful person you know understands the process. They love it even. From Elon Musk to Bill Gates, every one of them underwent the process where they were broke as hell, living miserably, sleepless nights…day in, day out grinding on their business till they succeeded. Wealth is a process, not an event. Ask any chef and they will confirm that the perfect dish is a series of ingredients and a well-engineered process of execution: a little of this, a little of that, done at the right time and at the right place, and wham, you have a delicious meal. Wealth creation has the same method of execution-a fabricated accumulation of many disassociated ingredients into an assembled whole that has value and is worth millions.

START NOW!

The best part of all this is that you can start where you are now with what you have. The Chinese have a proverb where it says" The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now. "The most important part is to start and execute the ideas you have. Ideas are useless and everyone has them, what’s valuable is the execution of those ideas to give you the outcomes you desire. Everyone talks about their BIG idea that could be worth millions but never come around doing it. The few that do execute their idea even if it is not well formulated, find success faster than those who do not execute their ideas. It is said in the good book, in Proverbs 14:23, There is profit in all hard work, but endless talk leads only to poverty. So do more and talk less after all, actions speak louder than words.
