The Bible states that the The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. It is then no surprise that Solomon asked for wisdom. I think that the Lord was so impressed with this that He gave Solomon more riches on top of giving him wisdom.
Why Wisdom?
You only get wisdom after applying the knowledge you have gained over and over again, finetuning it every time, removing the useless and keeping the useful. So when Solomon asked for Wisdom, in essence, he was bypassing all that effort and immediately ending at the goal. If it were any other person, they would have asked for riches, knowledge, land etc
Companies like Kiwi Co are awesome because they are focused on the application of knowledge through fun projects. The great about them is that they start off with kids in their young ages so kids grow up building awesome projects and learning way faster than learning just the theory of it.
I like watching YouTube content from channels like Stuff Made Here. The channel owner Shane had was fortunate enough that his parents invested in him early on by making sure he was doing fun projects and he was able to experiment with a lot of things and learning from his mistakes. This led to him having a great mastery in all things engineering especially Mechanical Engineering. I highly recommend you see his channel as he does great and fun projects. I hope to one day do the same as I love inventing things and turning my ideas to life. I believe this is a working life and making work a fun activity is a great way to live this life.
Takeaway
Always seek to gain wisdom in everything that you do. Do not seek knowledge for knowledge sake. Knowing is good, but applying is better. I think if schools are focused on application of knowledge, we would be far off better. We are moving away from a merit based system to a skill based system. Employers have realized that skills is the way to get results. Knowing something doesn't help solve a problem but having the skill to do it is what gets you the results. The only way to get those skills is through thoroughly applying the knowledge you gain.
